Formation of new Cycling Far North Group

Richie Bates advised the group that David O'Loughlin has resigned as the chair of the Community Walking & Cycling Group. Cr Lesina recommended that this community group could be disbanded and the newly formed Cycling Far North Group represent the community at the Focus Group meeting.

Richie Bates outlined that the group is currently being formalised and will represent all levels of cyclists including recreational cyclists, commuter cyclists and cycling clubs. The group has been formed to lobby on behalf of far north cyclists on issues as they arise. Currently Ritchie Bates is the Acting Chair until the group is formalised shortly.

Safety Group

BH reported that a 2 year Road Safety Action Plan is currently being prepared and should be ready by June 2010 which covers the Far North Queensland three local Council areas. A recommendation from this Plan will be that Councils are to be proactive in managing their own crash data information.

The position of Road Safety Officer has recently been discussed with Noel Rumble and if supported, the position will sit in either DTMR or Cairns Regional Council.
